Who Are We?
Heritage and History of Hanover County, Inc. was chartered in 2004 to embark on a series of publishing ventures to introduce the public to Hanover’s historic role in our nation’s past.
History is the process of change, wrought by the famous and the obscure. Within the boundaries of Hanover County we have evidence of native American power struggles, the impact of war, revolutions in science and industry, slave insurrections, and the drama of everyday life. Here are just some of the courtesy people who lived in Hanover County and have made an impact on our nation’s history:
- Samuel Davies and Religious Freedom
- Thomas Nelson and Independence
- Edmund Ruffin and Agriculture
- Eunice Bundy and Education
Hundreds of Hanoverians have embraced this project. HHHC has been seen making the rounds of the county, setting up booths at fairs, and hosting town hall meetings and luncheons to introduce ourselves to the community. In addition to multiple community meetings, HHHC met with town and county officials and members of Hanover’s African-American community. We have also manned booths at Hanover Heritage Day, the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Showcase and the Hanover Tomato Festival. Please join our efforts to document our important history!
